dead ipod touch

my ipod 3rd gen died out on me like two months back.screen just went white and it switched off and came back to life two days ago.i charged it and everything and then it died out again the next day.i charged it all night but still, nothing.my laptop dont even recognise it when i try to charge it on the laptop to restore it and i wanna try to restore it or something to make it work.help?

iPod touch, iOS 4.2.7, 3rd gen, 8g

Force your device to start using these instructions:

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support


If this doesn't help, try using the DFU mode:

  • Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable.
  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds
  • Press the Home button while holding the Power button and hold both for 10 seconds.
  • Release the Power button, but KEEP HOLDING the Home button.
  • After about 15 seconds, iTunes will tell you it has detected a device in Recovery Mode.
  • Restore your device
