Macbook Pro w Retina doesn't like my External Harddrive

I have a Late 2012 13" Retina Display and in the past few weeks I've wanted to chuck it out the window I'm so frustrated. My FIRST problem is the computer will completely freeze, make a skipping noise then shut down which happens often so I'm not sure if that means something internal in the computer is failing or what.. Second, I have a LaCie Porsche Design hard drive and when I hook it up and try to delete stuff off the drive (dragging it to my trash) finder freezes and takes forever and a day to delete. It never completes and I've given up waiting for it to delete the trash when my hard drive is hooked up. This is getting really frustrating as I'm a student and don't have time for my computer giving me these problems.

Thanks for the Help.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), null
