pages 5.5.3 won't open older pages document. Says save first in pages09. Don't have pages09

If it is just this one Pages '08 document, why not upload it to the free Zamzar service and convert it to .docx. Takes about 5 minutes to get an email back from them with a link to the converted document. Worked fine for me. However, I would not recommend uploading documents with sensitive content to any site that you do not control.

Thanks. I have a couple hundred such documents, though. Can I buy Pages09 for my new MacBook Pro?
Yes. Amazon still has the retail iWork '09 DVD for roughly $25USD. You can install it, but it won't work on Yosemite until you also download and install the Apple iWork 9.3 updater. I would follow both installations with Disk Utility and verify/repair system file permissions. The Pages '09 user guide is here.
