Is it possible to make an eBook in iBooks Author and send it to Amazon as a KDP file for the Kindle?

No, iBA can only export to .ibooks, .pdf, and .txt.

For info on how to best produce or convert books to formats accepted for Kindle, check the forums run by Amazon for its products.

Assuming that you've made good use of iBooks Author (formatting, widgets, etc.), you'd be very disappointed in the result.

At some point in the future, I expect iBooks Author to add an EPUB 3 export option that would not be equally disappointing.
