We have just bought a panasonic Lumix camera SZ8 that has wifi function. We are trying to connect it to our mac desktop but are having problems finding/connecting/sharing a folder. has anyone managed to do this via the wifi/internet. Paul

If you have not already done so, read the camera's user manual troubleshooting section, contact Panasonic and/or post in their forums.
I don't have a cameras like yours, so I cannot offer specific answers. However, your camera's instructions should give the answers you need.
Note that your camera's Basic Owner’s Manual specifically states that detailed instructions on the operation of this camera are contained in the “Owner’s Manual for advanced features (PDF format)” in the supplied CD-ROM. If for some reasonyou cannot see the advanced manual, it is available for reading or downloading here.
For general Wi-Fi capabilities and operating instructions, see the Wi-Fi section (pages 93-124) of your camera's advanced features manual. More specific Wi-Fi help and troubleshooting suggestions are on Page 146 of the same manual.

The Lumix cameras' software is designed to network with Windows OS's. You can find directions on photography forums written by people who say they have been able to make their cameras' wi-fi connections sync with their Macs. Personally, I have tried and failed to get my GX8 to download photos to my Mac Pro running Mavericks.

The sample is for a GF6, but the tutorial was linked out straight from the GX8 support page (my camera), and I suppose the process is the same for all WiFi-enabled Panasonic cameras.
