safari is opening unwanted pages of advertisement

It sounds to me like your iPad is having popups appear out of nowhere. Most popups can be prevented by enabling popup blocking in the Safari Settings:

Safari settings - iPad User Guide

Go to Settings > Safari, where you can:

...

Block pop-ups

...

I have the same problem (on my 6s).

Even though I have pop-ups blocked and 'limit ad tracking' turned on in 'privacy', I keep getting ads every time I turn Safari on - from Verizon (my carrier, sigh) , and from Xfinity (don't use / never been) and other random ones (including large home builder corporations).

Is there anything else that can be done?
