If you ever encounter that issue again try disabling your virus protection software. I just had that issue, disabled the virus software and I was able to restore with no problem.
Today, while I was updating software on my iphone 6+, error 53 ocurred and my iphone literally died. I couldn't turn it on anymore or anything else, so I brought it to my nearest Apple store and now they are dignosing the problem.
But, they told me they see some mechanical damage and it could be possible they refuse my warranty. If that happens, I really don't know how to revive my iphone.
