I dropped my iPhone 6 in the ocean, then it started saying "This device cannot support this cable", yet i wasn't charging it. I put it in a bag of rice a minute ago. How long do I let it sit and will it be okay?

General suggestion is to leave it in the rice for a week. Most likely you will need to replace this phone. Water and electronics do not mix well and salt water and electroincs is the worst. As I said, I would start planning to replace this phone now.

If it was in salt water, don't waste your time with rice. The phone is dead. Take it to an Apple store for an out of warranty replacement for $299.
What if i am on the edge plan with verizon
The plan doesn't matter. Apple will replace the phone and notify Verizon that the device has been changed. You may have to call Verizon to re-activate it if this doesn't happen automatically, but that's just a phone call.
I got it to work again! I put it in rice for 24 hours then let it sit in the car for 4 hours and got it real hot and i drew the moisture out of it!

mine fell off a dock yesterday and i ended up getting it, rinsing it off in fresh water and then denatured alcohol and now is in a bag of rice in my car. I hope I can get it working as well
