I've been getting playback issues with 4K media from new camera (stuttering, dropped frames).
What's the more likely culprit? My external FW drives or my old 2010 2.66ghz 15" MBP?
Any way to maximize performance with what I have?

FireWire is not adequate for 4k. You really need a USB3 or Thunderbolt RAID.

Tho I have a feeling my MBP's system will not let a usb 3.0 drive run at full capacity. Hope I'm wrong.
Yeah, my system report says 2.0 and no Thunderbolt hardware. ******.
Unfortunately, just one model change away from the (much) faster connections.
Does your machine have a card reader or Expresscard/34 slot?
