MY Mac running 10.9.5 is suddenly running very slow. I had a problem with a few annoying pop up ads but they stopped. Now the system is terribly slow. Where should I check first.

It is possible you actually got adware on your Mac. If that is the case, you could try AdwareMedic

But the EtreCheck output will allows others to review the 3rd party additions on your Mac that may be causing your performance issues.
