ipad 2 permanently disabled

My iPad 2 recently became disabled. I didn't enter the passcode incorrectly, but it is nonetheless permanently disabled. It does not even connect to iTunes so I can reset it. Is there a way to do this myself? The nearest Apple Store is 100 miles away so I would rather not travel that far to fix this.
