Hard Disk Size

I recently purchased a MacBook and had to partition the hard drive in order to put Windows onto it (i need it for work programs). When i was doing this the total size of my HD appeared to be 57GB (equates to 60GB, i know). The problem is, when i bought my MacBook i paid for an upgrade to an 80GB Hard Drive and i am wondering if there is a way to check exactly what size my Hard Disk is. I'll be extremely unhappy if i find that i have only be given a 60GB hard disk!

Thanks,
Simon.

Go to about this mac by clicking the blue apple on the top left side, and click more info to open the system profiler click on serial-ata under hardware, it will give you the information about the hard drive.

If you order one with 80 GB, then call apple store and bring all of your documentation and order form to prove that you order 80 GB and already paid for that additional cost.

Good Luck.

Well it's possible that you did indeed get a 60 instead of a 80GB HD. Not likely but I'm sure that you could get it taken care of without much hassle.

However if you're showing 57GB with the default OS installed then your probably do have an 80. The default OS install takes up quite a bit of space and as you know a 80GB drive doesn't really work out to 80GB of space due to the fact of how drives are advertised and how they're actually measured.

If you're looking to reclaim so space and rid yourself of some stuff that you may or may not even use you might have a look at THIS.

i have a 80GB blackbook. If you go to system profiler and click on Serial-ATA your capacity should read 74.53GB or there abouts. That is the actual size of the HD after it is formatted. If yours is reading 57 then you obviously didn't get a 80GB HD installed. Take it to your nearest apple store with your invoice and they should upgrade it for free. If you don't have an Apple store near by then you will have to call Apple Care and most likely send it back to them for an upgrade. You might consider requesting a refund for the additional cost and just purchasing a larger HD yourself. Make sure to complain (I did about having to return mine for RSS and got a free neoprene sleeve, and 75bux off). Companies like macsales.com will give you money for your old HD (50 bux i believe for 60GB). Good Luck!!!
