projection from lightning to VGA and HDMI has stopped working :(

I have been teaching for two years using my iPad in the classroom. Last week, my iPad stopped projecting onto the screen using my correct apple adapters. I have both the VGA and the HDMI and neither are working. They connect to the iPad and the blue ribbon appears at the top of the iPad screen but nothing shows on the projector. Please help as I do not want to have to restore my iPad.
