photos disappeared when iCloud Photo Library enabled

Last night I enabled iCloud Photo Library on my iPad. Immediately, I noticed that many photos and videos disappeared from my device, but I assumed that these would become visible when the upload was complete. Howevere, this morning, I am still unable to find these items on my device. When I look at iCloud.com, I see some photos, but not the ones that are missing.

The ones that are missing seems to be ones taken recently, such as yesterday.

All of the missing items were taken on the device, they were not uploads from an iTunes backup or anything like that.

Any suggestions on where these photos and videos might have gone?
