I am trying to convert a mov movie to avi using quicktime. Is this possible or is it possible to download quicktime pro 7 to Mac with yosemite 10.10.3 to make it possible?

its an older guide but QT used to be able to do it I think.
QuickTime 7 Pro still does. Third option from the top when I opened a random .mov file and chose to export it.
To complete the test, I converted the video I opened to an .avi file. It plays just fine in the free VLC Video Player. It will also play in the newer version of QuickTime OS X ships with, though it temporarily converts the video first before playing it.

QuickTime supports AVI(MJEPG). To convert .mov to .avi and keep the video as the original one. I think you'd better use some converter software.
