May 27, 2015 8:58 AM in response to SamRenee17by Lanny,Any USB external drive out there will work with the standard USB-C to USB adaptor sold by Apple.
I'm currently using 4 external OWC drives with it. Including the one that I used with Setup Assistant when I configured the new MacBook.
There are some 3rd party USB-C to USB3 and Mini-USB cables out there too.

May 27, 2015 9:29 AM in response to Lannyby aatsi,You can get an adapter that will change the shape, but USB 3.1 (which the new MacBook's USB-C uses) is twice as fast in transfer speeds as USB 3.0.

May 27, 2015 9:35 AM in response to aatsiby Lanny,No, it's not twice as fast though. Apple limited it to 5 Gigs. See the Anantech review, and Apple Help Topic: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204360
The USB-C port on your MacBook supports data transfer speeds at up to 5 Gbps (USB 3.1 Gen 1).
