My iPhone 5s won't let me open up messages, is this because of that new bug going around?

This new bug has been going around lately where you send a message and your iPhone crashes and reboots and my friend spammed me with the messages and now I can not open up my messages. I was wondering if that caused this to happen or not. Can anyone help me cause when I tap on the messages app, it doesn't let me in at all. thank you
