Moving a backup (Time Machine) file to a new iMac.

Can I, or rather how can I install a backup file from my 24" iMac (2009) to a brand new 21.5' iMac?

It would include programs, i.e. MS Office, Evernote, etc.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

When you first start up a new Mac, a utility named Setup Assistant will ask if you want to use a Time Machine backup file to make your new Mac look just like your old Mac.

If you have already passed on that opportunity, you can use Migration Assistant to transfer the data in your Time Machine backup of the old Mac to the new Mac.

This Apple support document will provide more details about Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant.
