Q: Anyone else having this problem?

I have a new usb Mac keyboard. I've been having this problem off an on since the beginning of the year. After shutdown, the keyboard won't work. I can take another keyboard (older Mac one) plug it in, to the same usb port previously used, and that keyboard works. I have shutdown, unplugged everything for 5 minutes, held down power button, etc, etc. Usually can be fixed by doing a SMC reset but why should I have to keep doing that.I'm going to return it.

I think it's in the keyboard.

What Mac, with what version of OS X, are you using?

Sorry, I thought the form picked up that info, my bad.

    OS X 10.10.3

iMac 2.93 Ghz Intel Core i7

    fully patched.

Normally happens when machine is accidentally shutdown - either by an oops or a power outage.

Upon reboot, the keyboard does not work.

This is a new keyboard - less than 5 months old.

I can take an older Mac keyboard (both usb's) and plug it in and it works.

The only way I can get the newer keyboard to work again is to do an SMC reset

Hold down power key when shutting down, unplug everything for 5/10 minutes, then reboot and cross-fingers.

Apple said I could return it. It's been happening off and on since I got it.

Maybe just a bad bunch of keyboards.
