when I first opened it, I got a very long error message that was sent to apple, I downloaded the new iTunes and installed it, tried again. Now there is now message, the icon in the dock just bounces a few times then nothing.....

just figured out that my helvetica font was turned off in my font library. turned it back on, problem fixed!
itunes won't open
