My 27" iMac (2013) just started dropping the internet connection constantly...

When this happens I can go to the Network pane under System Preferences and run Diagnostics. This reconnects it every time, but only for a few seconds. (A page load or two in Safari.) Then it stalls out again. This makes doing anything web related (which is everything now) unfeasible. My guess is that it has something to do with DNS servers, as I did find a couple of viruses when I ran Syphos. I don't know enough, however, to reset those to something correctly and safely.

First uninstall Sophos, it is worthless!! There are no viruses for OS X, any reading you got must pertain to MS Windows viruses which does not affect OS X. There is a small amount of malware for OS X however that can be easily avoided by using a little common sense. OS X does not require antivirus, cleaning, or any third party utilities to run well.

The common sense!

  • Never download from a torrent.
  • If you get a pop-up, ad, e-mail or phone call advising your computer has been compromised, it is a SCAM intended only to take your money.
  • Keep OS X up-to-date.,

Follow the developers instructions for uninstalling Sophos and then re-try and see if your problem persists. I am suggesting that because in many many situations, antivirus apps will create more problems than they solve. If the problem persists after uninstalling Sophos then we can look at other options to help you.

Brandon,

You (or someone else) has really made a mess, now I see CleanMyMac installed, that needs to be 100% uninstalled too and you have something called

net.kromtech.kext.Firewall

installed which I am pretty sure is worthless too.

You may want to consider wiping your HD clean and doing a fresh install and then manually adding your apps and data back in. Stay away from cleaning, antivirus, and other third party utilities that purport to maintain OS X.

In addition per the report you posted you have Yosemite OS X 10.10.3. Your system profile shows you are using Lion Mac OS X (10.7.2).

Conflicting info: Please update/correct your profile so that you can receive the correct troubleshooting suggestions. This will assist the users in trying to help you. Thank you.
