Messages app won't open

I tried opening Messages today and it would not open. Earlier today I was playing a game and then my iPod suddenly restarted (I saw the Apple logo) and then it was back to normal. I didn't try the Messages app until when I noticed that it wouldn't open.

By "not open", I mean I would click on it, load, then a black screen would appear before it would close out.

I turned off iMessages (and now can't turn it back on). I can send texts/iMessages through Siri and receive them. All of the other apps open and close fine.

Try:

- Getting someone to send you a Message. You may have this problem

received the "effective power" bug message and opened it. The phone did not turn off, but my message app will not work now. It will go to a "white" screen then flash back to the home screen. Is there a fix?

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Go to Settings>Messages>Send and Receive and sign out and sign back in.

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
