And so it seems that I have fallen prey to this "text" prank thats been going around.
And now I can't access my messages app as every time I click it it will briefly pop up and then minimise.
There is still the notification sign on the app button.
If I double tap home to show background apps it shows the "text"
Any fixes for this so far?

Try this
Some suggest turning off Messages previews for Notifications, though our tests have not shown this process to be effective. If Messages has already crashed, however, AppleInsider has confirmed that receiving a new message, sending out a picture from Photos or sending yourself a message through Share Sheets will stop the process.
