macbook pro basically unusable when magsafe IN

This has been happening recently, but when the power supply is plugged in (via thunderbolt / cinema display) the computer basically becomes inoperable. I unplug the magsafe, and it works perfectly.

here are my specs, anyone have a similar problem?
