That is correct. User damage is not covered by warranty. You would have to pay to have the screen replaced. You can make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service provider and see if they do screen replacements. Otherwise you will have to purchase an out of warranty replacement.
