Way too little info about your WorkFlow and source image(s) -

  • insert a typical ORIGINAL image using the camera tool or drag & drop
  • if you have one, same for the "received" image

we can look at their respective attributes ourselves

  • what Mail client?
  • Tell us exactly what steps you take - n detail - to attach
(insert? - my MS Entourage will do both with different appearance )
attach is just that - attached and NOT displayed
INSERT puts the image InLine (like here) AND attaches it for transmission

The behavior you describe makes me think that the original file is HiRes - like for printing - and the resulting sent file is ScreenRes - BOTH with the same dimensions in Inches/CMs

e.g., here are two images - both with the same physical size (±3.6"x2.0") but different 'resolutions' for DISPLAY - 72ppi & 300ppi respectively

Hmmm, what does MS Entourage have to do with anything?

The OP is running 10.10.3 and most likely Mail which is what CT is referring to. And, you probably wouldn't have that in your version of Mail - this snapshot is from Mail v. 7.3 (in Mavericks) which did not change in Yosemite.

And, the likelihood of anyone knowing exactly what OS or app a recipient uses is slim to none.
