I want to reset my OS back to Lion from Yosemite, does the reinstall delete my harddrive items and applications? I haven't messed with it but I am curious if it is a full reformat or my applications would be safe as I lost the login information to the account I used to use for purchasing from the store.

Why? Okay, Lion is no longer supported. Backup no matter what. SAVE those package installer files of ".ESD" before you run it (create a bootable installer too). Check out the real MacBook Pro forum and/or Lion and Yosemite for OS X.
Downgrading would probably mean there are issues with your user account preferences and library as in Mail and others.
I know it's not supported, but Yosemite has made this old thing crash a few times haha. I would have backed up anyways but the rest of what you said made no sense to me.
If Lion is available in the Purchases section of the Mac App Store then download it and make a bootable USB device using
The boot from that USB device and format the HD and install
