iTunes on my PC is thinking that my iphone 6 is new and is wanting to restore it from a back up. I can't get past this point to sync my calendar and don't I want to restore it, what do I do?

Just choose "Set Up as New"
Trust me. I know it sounds scary but you'll be okay. On the next screen you can then click "Get Started" and you'll be good to go!
I think you have been given the right answer above, but should your iPhone have content on it that is not in your library see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
