Hello Eric, thank you for responding. I have 8 different account types, 7 of them have green lights and 1 has a red light. The red light one is a Yahoo SMTP account. Clicking the "Show Detail" button for that account produces a drop down box of gobbledegook. I am not sure that I ought to have so many different accounts. I have found that switching the Mac off and then on again sometimes helps to send things from the "Outbox" but I've no idea why. At the moment everything has been delivered and the problem seems to have gone away. I have had the computer for 4 years now and I am wondering if it is time to go and have it serviced as I have problems in other areas too. Problems such as slowness in opening a program such as 'Pages' for instance or 'Aperture'.

However, thank you for your help.

Peter

You are welcome. From what you posted, the computer doesn't need to be serviced, but your software might need tweaking.
