Sending from @icloud.com email instead of phone number?

Previously when my girlfriend used either Messages on her phone or the OS X Messages app, all messages were sent via her phone number and were synced between the two. Now she got a new iPhone 6 and when she messages from her phone it is sent as a message, but when from her OS X Messages app it is sent from her @icloud.com address and is not synced with her phone. How do I fix this for her?

First, check Settings > Messages, Send and Receive, and make sure her number is selected under "Start New Conversations From." If not, select it and try deleting the old message thread and sending a new conversation.

If that doesn't work, go to Settings > Messages > Facetime, and tap your Apple ID and choose Sign Out. Do the same thing on Settings > Messages, Send and Receive. Restart the iPhone, and sign back into Facetime and Messages, and see if the number is showing under Send and Receive.
