There is no real limit in theory... other than the practical limitations related to the USB bus itself.. and how much data can pass through it or be powered by it... (For bus powered devices)

How many devices and which ones... are you considering using at any one time?

Additional: There is also the limitation of Midi itself and it's max 16 Midi Channels to take into account of course but there are midi interfaces that can provide ways around that limit by providing multiple 'ports' that multiple the number of banks of 16 Midi Channels available... Example: 4 "ports" each controlling/handling 16 Midi Channels resulting in 64 Midi channels available at any given time..

Note: There is no difference between any such limitations on a PC or a Mac... nor between PT and Logic (or any other DAW for that matter..)

The maximum number of MIDI Devices that Logic can recognize is limited by the Physical Input Object in the Environment. You can count how many slots it has (looks like 128). Plus add a few devices that use a different protocol und are not listed there like the iPad.

You might have a hard time to physically connect 128 MIDI devices to your USB port (unless you have lots of cascaded USB hub. However, using the Network MIDI Device, you are creating virtual MIDI Devices just by clicking on the plug button in the Audio MIDI Setup utilities app. This way, you can populate the MIDI Devices pretty fast.

Here is a screenshot of the Environment Window.

Hope that helps
