Depending on whether you made a purchase or not, you may not be able to remove your payment method. Not all accounts can remove payment methods.

Read the support document I provided. If you cannot select none, then you cannot select none. Not all accounts can be done that way. A valid credit card is necessary for most accounts. It also provides alternatives.
