Mid-2007 Imac crashing

My Mid-2007 IMac started crashing 2 weeks ago after installing some osx updates. It would freeze and require a force shut down. Eventually it wouldn't restart at all. I unplugged it and came back to it 24 hours later and was able to do a safe mode restart and than a regular boot. I upgraded the osx to Yosemite and it is still freezing and crashing. Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone know the cause? I don't want an Imac with Retina display Apple! I just want this one to work as it did a few weeks ago.

It would help us to help you if we could have some more technical info about your iMac.

If you like, please go ahead and download, install and run Etrecheck.

Etrecheck was developed as a simple Mac diagnostic report tool by a regular Apple Support forum user and technical support contributor named Etresoft.

Etrecheck is a small, unobstrusive app that compiles a static snapshot of your entire Mac hardware system and installed software.

This is a free app that has been honestly created to provided help in diagnosing issues with Macs running the newer versions of OS X.

It is not malware and can be safely downloaded and installed onto your Mac.

http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck

Copy/paste and post its report here in another reply thread so that we have a complete profile of your Mac's hardware and installed software so we can all help with your Mac performance issues.

Thank You.

You have two fan control apps.

Decide which one you prefer to use and uninstall the other.

Having two fan control apps trying to control your iMac's fans could cause system issues.

You also have two Adobe Flash Player extensions.

Do a web search to find the proper way of uninstalling all Adobe Flash Player extensions, then reinstall the most recent version of Adobe Flasy Player.

May 28, 2015 11:16 AM in response to minniefrombelvedere

A little, but not enough.

Please go to the Etrecheck link, download the app, install the app and then follow its instructions for generating the troubleshooting report and post its report output here in a new reply.

We all need to see what you have installed on your Mac that could be causing your Mac's performance issues.

This app is not a virus or malware, but a simple diagnostic tool to help us and you to diagnose your Mac issues.

Thank You.

The only thing I could find is that your Mac has the Spigot adware/malware.

Here is how to rid your Mac of this adware.

http://www.thesafemac.com/?s=Spigot&submit=Search

You may want to make sure all of your applications are up to date and Yosemite compatible.

Make sure all of your Internet web plugins and extensions are all up to date and Yosemite compatible.

You may want to consider adding more RAM to your 2007 iMac.

Your iMac can take a total of 6 GBs of RAM.

If you live in the U.S., you can replace one of the 2 GB RAM modules with a 4 GB one by ordering RAM from OWC (http://www.macsales.com).

OWC also has international shipping to certain countries outside of the U.S.

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/5300DDR2S4GB/

RAM modules are user installable and , relatively, easy to install be newbie or novice Mac users

Here is how to install RAM into a 2007 iMac.

When you get kernel panics, as you seem to be doing, the pertinent information is in the panic report. The "etrecheck" stuff is not pertinent.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

In the Console window, select

DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION System Diagnostic Reports

(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar.

There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.

If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.

In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)

Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.

I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

When you post the report, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
