My friend created a document on his iPad using Pages v2.5.3. He sent it to me as an email attachment. I could open it on my iPad however I could not open it on my iMac running Pages '09 v4.3.
I got the error message pictured below. Is the problem at his end or mine? And how do we correct it?
I am running Mac OS 10.8.5 and Pages '09 v4.3
He is using an iPad iOS 8 and Pages v2.5.3
iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
His iPad and yours are both using the highly incompatible Pages 5.5.3 format, which your Pages '09 and anybody not running Yosemite and Pages 5.5.3 can not open.
You can try opening it in Safari with iWork for iCloud beta.

Thanks. This stinks on Apple's part. Can't believe their own software won't play nicely with its siblings. Oh, well.
This is not news any more, Pages 5 has been out one and three quarter years.
It is the same story for just about all Apple software now.
