Shadowing on MacBook Pro display

Hi

These latest days - maybe a couple of weeks - I have had a severe and very ugly shadowing around the windows of each shown application on the display of my MacBook Pro 17 " (Mid 2009) running OS X 10.10.3. Display is set to Default resolution with a Gray desktop. And the shadow is dark(ish) gray.

Also to the left side some shadowing from the 'upmost' application to the 'lower' one where windows overlap.

The only software updates in the period has been Remote Desktop Client Update V3.8.4 and installation of X-Rite ColorMunky V1.1.0.

And I have replaced the battery to a new one yesterday.

Any ideas of what causes this problem, and how I fix it ??

Consider the possibility of the cause being X-Rite ColorMunky V1.1.0.

The ColorMunki works fine on my iMac, so I don't regard this as a suspected culprit. I have been using X-Rite a color management tool on the machine since it was new, the ColorMunki is the result of the old tool not being compatible with Yosemite.

Also the problem is the same if I switch to the default display profile.

Here is the EtreCheck report for the Mac with the normal things I run active.

One additional observation is that the shadowing is also all along the toolbar.

Problem description:

Strong shadowing on display of MacBook Pro around application windows.
