I'm not able to open iPhoto at all on my macbook. I get a window saying iPhoto quit unexpectedly and then a window with all sorts of numbers. Help!

Every time I connect my iPhone, none of the photos are able to transfer, because I can't open iPhoto. (I keep getting the same error message, that it quit unexpectedly.)

That's a crash report. Run iPhoto again and copy the first 50 lines of the crash report and post with your reply to the questions below.

  • what system are you running?
  • what version of iPhoto you using?
  • what fixes have you tried?
  • where is your library located?
  • did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
  • are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
  • how much free space on your boot drive?

Re: Iphoto 9.5.1 - opens up, then nothing, then crashes - any ideas

Jan 23, 2014 2:00 PM (in response to Bluenose95)

Does iPhoto still crash if you turn off iCloud Photo Stream in system preferences?

The reason I ask is, there are a lot of references to 'iLifeAssetManagement' in the crash report which was related to an issue previosly reported on here. This is the workaround that was apparently used in those cases...

From Finder, hold down the option key on your keyboard and click on the Go menu at the top of the screen

Select Library from the drop down menu

Then navigate to Application Support > iLifeAssetManagement > assets

Right click on the 'sub' folder and choose Compress

Drag the resulting zip file to your Desktop (as a backup)

Go to your System Preferences and choose iCloud

Turn OFF the iCloud Photos option

Go back to Library > Application Support and DELETE the iLifeAssetManagement folder

Now, in System Preferences, turn the iCloud Photos option ON

iPhoto shouldnow be able to launch. Give it enough time to re-download your Photo Stream content. if you are missing any of your My Photo Stream photos (more than 30 days old), unzip the sub folder on your desktop and drag that into iPhoto.

I'm not able to open iPhoto at all on my macbook. I get a window saying iPhoto quit unexpectedly and then a window with all sorts of numbers. Help!
