Q: Touch ID

Why doesn't Touch ID work? I have an ipad and iphone 6 plus and the touch ID does not work on either one.  I have deleted and added my fingerprints so many times, only to try the next day and my fingerprint is not recognized.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

    Hi rmcmanemon,

Sounds like you wish to receive some help with your Touch ID. Here is an article with some troubleshooting tips regarding Touch ID:

    Get help with Touch ID

    1. Make sure that you're using the latest version of iOS.
    2. Make sure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.*
    3. Cover the Home button completely. Don't tap too quickly, don't press down hard, and don't move your finger while Touch ID is scanning. Make sure that your finger touches the metal ring around the Home button.
    4. If you're using a case or screen protector, make sure it doesn't cover the Home button or the surrounding ring. If it does, remove the case or screen protector and try again.
    5. Tap Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and make sure that iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is on. Also make sure that you've enrolled one or more fingerprints.
    6. Try enrolling a different finger.
    7. If you can't enroll any of your fingers, take your device to an Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact AppleCare for help.

    * Moisture, lotions, sweat, oils, cuts, or dry skin might affect fingerprint recognition. Certain activities can also temporarily affect fingerprint recognition, including exercising, showering, swimming, cooking, or other conditions or changes that affect your fingerprint.

I appreciate the attempt and of course I know all those things.  The issue is not making sure all those things are done.  It is more of an issue with Touch ID as a concept.  Seems like no matter how many times I redo my fingerprints with multiple fingers, they do not work more than a day or two.  This happens on both my iPad and iPhone.  Seems more like a design flaw.  I've just gone back to password use for the phone and none at all with the iPad, since it stays home.  At least that works consistently.  I liked the Touch ID, particularly on my iPhone 6 Plus, since it is so big.  I'll just have to deal with it until I can change phones.

    Thanks.
