Had ghost songs, updated, now I have no songs...

I have several thousand songs, many of which were showing up as ghost songs on my phone. I thought maybe they had addressed this is the newest update but instead it made all my songs disappear. I am strongly considering selling my phone and getting an android. Can anyone describe to me a way to fix this?
