pages: change date settings

Hi, how do I change the format of the date, I inserted from the insert menu, to a German version?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), os yosemite

System Preferences > Language & Region > Region: Europe: Germany.

Pages will now offer dd-mmm-yyyy as one of the format choices. Insert Menu > Date & Time. Left-click the inserted date to choose your formatting preference. In Pages v5, these initial inserted dates are static between document accesses.

Thanks for that very useful help. But I just wonder, if I could also insert the name of the month in German, I mean e.g. "Mai" instead of "May"?

The Advanced… button on the same preferences pane from above, allows you to set the Format language to German — which effects dates, times, and numbers. Your Pages insert date choices will get German month names now.

Thank you so much for your speedy help! I would have preferred just to change the settings for "Pages" instead of changing it in general but I might used to it!
