Have music in library, but when syncing it doesn't show up.

I have downloaded music to my library and it shows to be there, and has placed checks on all songs. When I try to sync with my IPod by artist, a few of these are not there as an option to download to the IPod. It's not all music, just certain ones. Can someone tell me what I need to do to get these artists so they will download?
