Would it be possible to add a lightening connection to a 2010 iMac?

My iMac was purchased before lightening connectors. It is now very slow. Would it be possible to add a lightening - thunderbolt - connector to the iMac?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), 27" iMac 2010

Ports may not be added to iMacs, the existing ports are manufactured onto the mail logic board and may not be added on to. If you have a requirement for aThunderbolt connection (which is totally different than a Lightning connection) then you need to purchase an iMac made after 2011 or later.

Lightning connections are used by iPods, iPhones & iPads. Thunderbolt connections are used by Macs, including MacBook Airs, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Mini, Mac Pro etc...

Many thanks for your answer - I would like to find a way of making my 2010 iMac more up-to-date without having to purchase a newer model. I didn't think you could add on any ports but I thought it with asking anyway!

There are two things you can have added by a shop, first is adding more RAM. If the computer still has the original 4GB add another 8GB. In addition an Apple Authorized Service Provider should be able to add an SSD, this will speed up startup, shutdown and file and app loading and shutdown dramatically. Other than that, you have have what you have.
