Select an item below another one

I am editing elements in Numbers (same in Pages or in Keynote). I have multiple elements on top of each other, like a transparent overlay above other small pictures.

Is it possible to select an item below another one without:

1. placing the upper one to a different position or

2. sending it back to the upper one?

The goal would be to click with a modifier key and select not the topmost, but the next visible element.

Thanks

This picture maybe express the issue better. I place transparent objects above charts (this is just a made up example).

I can select those only if I send those back in the display order. In case of one object it is ok, but as I do it pretty frequently I was looking for a possible shortcut to select something behind an object.

Hi levi-air,

This may help.

A chart is just another object. Numbers' drawing capabilities are amazing 🙂.

Here is an example with just 2 objects, but the drawing principle works with any number of objects.

Click on Object 2 and drag it aside

Click on Object 1 and edit

Or Align centre, or whatever.

Format Panel > Arrange > Group.

Then you can drag the group back to where it should be.

To re-edit, Format Panel > Arrange > Ungroup.
