AirDrop Not Working

I have an iPhone 5c running iOS 8.3, and a late 2011 MacBook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.3. When I try to AirDrop from my iPhone to my Macbook each cannot see the other. Both are running Bluetooth and, both are on the same network. I cannot pair each with the other on Bluetooth either. I keep receiving an error message Make sure MacBook Pro is turned on and in range. They are less that 1 foot from each other. They have connected via Bluetooth, but the connection is lost after a few seconds.

Any ideas? Thanks

MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

See: Bluetooth: Why can't I pair my iPhone or iPad with another iOS device or with my computer?

Down near the bottom there's an AirDrop link. AirDrop between iOS and a Mac requires BlueTooth 4, which was not available prior to 2012.
