Not really.

The OS does 'sandbox' applications so that one app cannot edit the files of another app (at least without some user interaction).

The App store also looks for malicious software, but it is still a good idea to avoid installing too many apps, or ones from developers that may be unreliable (this is difficult, but important to think about). Malicious apps have been found in the store & taken down by Apple in the past, so the OS is not 100% immune to exploitation (nothing for consumers really can be).

Antivirus scanners need access to the entire system to work correctly, the App store rules does not allow third party developers to do that, so if there are any antivirus apps in the store they are basically pointless.
