Why IOS8.3 stores all the pictures in Camera Roll?

Does it make sense to store pictures downloaded from Facebook or Whatspp to store in Camera Roll ? You cannot even move pictures from Camera Roll to another folder. I have been using Android all these years and these small things really get to me. If you have to look at old picture, you need to scroll across all current pictures. It is really a headache. Is there a way around for these things ?
