Facetime Orientation when returning to app

I'm having a strange issue when I leave my Facetime app, and return to it holding it in a different direction that the receiving caller, it will orient the app in an undesirable direction. It never used to do this before 8.3. In order to reorient the screen back to the way I had it, I have to leave the app, hold the phone in the direction of my partner and then return to the app to have it facing the right direction, it is very frustrating and any help is very welcome.
