Q: iCal not saving my event

This is a very recent problem - it started about 2 weeks ago. Every time I create a new event with details, it appears for a brief second but subsequently, all the details disappear and it'll become 'New Event' on the right date with no other information. So I have to key in all the details again but this time, it'll save properly. Is any one experiencing the same problem? And what can I do to fix this 'cos it's frustrating. Thank you.

Add me to the list of people having this problem - suddenly, about 2 weeks ago after having used Calendar for years w/o ever having this issue. It never occurs on my phone, but on my Air and my Mini, Mavericks 10.9.5 and Calendar 7. I fortunately noticed it occurring the second or third time that an appointment went "poof" into the ether, so I'm not like poor Becky Little above. I had been using graphiks' workaround on my own through trial and error; it took me forever to find this thread!

We are seeing this same issue as OP on our iMac.  We are using multiple (10) Calendars in the Calendar app.  All are shared to iPhones using iCloud.  The issue only occurs for entries created at the iMac console, not on mobile.

This has been going on for about a month now. No response from Apple!! Too busy working on their AppleMusic platform and working out more ways to downgrade iTunes from one of the best apps I use (10) to the most frustrating disaster (11 & 12). Get your **** together Apple. How hard can it be to acknowledge and fix a little problem in iCal???? (This little problem is causing BIG issues for me. Come on Apple. It's not rocketScience. It's a calendar!!!)

After speaking to Applecare support, I learned this is a known issue with the iCloud service and they are working on it.  Best option you have is to call Applecare, get a tier 2 (senior advisor) on the phone and they will run a test or add your Apple ID to the list of affected users.  To their credit they seemed to be working on it aggressively.

I just spent about an hour online chatting and then a phone conversation with Apple Support. They said that the only way to fix this problem is to download Yosemite or an older version of Mavericks (older them 10.9.5). They finally did confirm with another tech that they do know about this problem, but aren't sure if it's going to get fixed since you can just update your OS and the problem will be fixed.

That just stinks.  Thank you for letting us know.  Apple support is just getting worse and worse. I have been an Apple user since the early 80s and I've just about had it.  There is absolutely no attempt to help the customer and every attempt to strong arm you into updating instead.  Well, I fell for it using Mavericks and it completely screwed up my iMac.  I was going to upgrade to Yosemite until a colleague told me about how many problems he's having with Yosemite. (He had Mavericks, which gave him so many problems that he updated to Yosemite in desperation... even worse, evidently).  Now I have the most expensive (beautiful looking) paperweight known to man.  Thanks a lot Apple.

Been having this problem on my MacBookPro for weeks (months?).  I just re-enter it.  Always works / sticks the second time.tried

Have tried some of the workarounds suggested in this thread. Didn't work.  Then got tired of trying.

Was satisfied to hear / learn that Apple knows of the problem and is working on it.

Because I know this will happen - every time - I don't bother entering the full info (especially if it's a long event title).  I'll just type in one character, hit enter. Wait for it to revert to "new event". Why bother changing the category and time if you're going to have to re-enter it, anyway? Then enter the proper info. All set!

Tedious, but second (or third) time's a charm every time. Have not lost or missed an appt.  But nonetheless, looking forward to the bug fix!

I've had this problem about a month, only on iMac 10.9.5 using iCal 7. Doesn't seem to happen on iphone, but I rarely enter appointments from the phone. The workaround of using the default Calendar when entering the reminder and then re-opening it to change worked for me, BUT not every time.

I too have reverted to pen and paper -  my imac is already at the limits of upgradeability, and i can't afford new everything.

THIS IS IMPORTANT TO YOUR CUSTOMER RELATIONS APPLEPEOPLE.

Yep.. That seems to do the trick.   Save the ical event in whatever the default calendar is and the event stays saved.

Then go back and change to whatever calendar you need and the event changes to the calendar you choose and does not revert to NEW EVENT.

It's def a workaround and Apple should def address the bug.   Clearly it's connected to iCal  in the cloud, which is messing up the Calendar change if you do it during the initial entry .   Hopefully they'll do something about it.   Every little annoyance counts.

Thanks Graphiks, Jane  et al for the tip.

Glad this works for some of you guys. Definitely does NOT work for me... as I see about 15 events that were input... stayed on my calendars for a day... and now are just blank New Events. (ugh!!) Good luck remembering what all these were.  Very frustrated and ****** off.  You guys are much more patient that I am.

Out of curiosity I tried refreshing the calendar by selecting the calendar and pressing "Command-R" for each calendar. Results, so far, look promising.

Yes. I'm having the same problem. Running OSX 10.7.5 on a MacBook Pro and iOS 8.4 on an iPhone 4s.

I entered in a lengthy entry for flight information (including the correct name of the airport and all the connecting information in the notes). Clicked done; it appeared for a second, but—it seems—as soon as the event was pushed to the iCloud, all the details evaporated and only the event appeared.

Did it a second time. The event and the details were saved.

Updating didn't change anything for me!

And this problem doesn't seem to be a recent one... Here is what I found in the forum !

Since upgrading to Lion, my iCal has been erratic.  Two main issues:

    1. New events - once I create a new event and name it, usually within a few seconds, the title of the event changes to New Event.

    2. iCal is unstable:  Usually manifested in two ways -

    a. freezes or goes to sleep for a random period of time and then works

    b. crashes and delivers an error about ending abnormally asing if to restart or ignore, or some such language.

    Any clues?
