Q: iCal not saving my event

This is a very recent problem - it started about 2 weeks ago. Every time I create a new event with details, it appears for a brief second but subsequently, all the details disappear and it'll become 'New Event' on the right date with no other information. So I have to key in all the details again but this time, it'll save properly. Is any one experiencing the same problem? And what can I do to fix this 'cos it's frustrating. Thank you.

I haven't read all the replies, but I think I have come up with a solution...

    Go into CALENDAR, PREFERENCES, GENERAL

Where it says "Default Calendar" select (at the bottom) SELECTED CALENDAR

Quit iCal and start up again.

I have tried a few test events and it's worked like a charm!

    Hope this works for others.

I have had this issue for a while to but I think I have a fix:

The only thing with this is that the choice of "calendar" is not set to any default, therefore, it will create the new event using the last calendar.  MUCH better than inputting all the info just to have it all deleted.

I just tried the above suggestion.  In your directions "Selected Calendar" is not an option.  At the bottom of the list is "Last Selected Calendar."  I tried this twice.  The first time, I didn't change the calendar and the entry stuck.  The second test, I changed the calendar and the same problem resulted: a defaulting to an all day event, wiping my times clear.

    Is anyone from Apple listening??

I am only having this issue on the desktop.

Events that I would create and select Add for would not appear on my icalendar.  Under IOS 9.01.

I went to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Scrolled to 'Calendars' at the bottom.

    Selected 'Default Calendar'

There were two sections: Exchange (my Microsoft Outlook email) and Icloud.

    Exchange had one calendar: Calendar

Icloud had two calendars - Home and Work.  Work was checked.

I checked 'Exchange: Calendar' and exited Settings.

After that Events would appear on my calendar after I selected Add.

Here are some pictures I thought might help a bit more

Please note that I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 desktop.

    Screen Shot 2015-10-11 at 8.01.21 AM.png

The picture below is what the original default calendar was, and I had all the problems of it not keeping events and making them disappear.

    Screen Shot 2015-10-11 at 8.01.58 AM.png

The picture below shows that I chose the "selected calendar" for my default calendar.  I shut down and restarted my computer and it works.  I can make any event for any of my family members and it does NOT end up as "new event" once I am done adding locations and files/links to that event.

I hope this helps a little more!!

It looks like this problem has finally been fixed.  I just made a couple of events and changed from my default work calendar to a different one and the event stayed as saved and didn't do the mystery New Event switch.

This worked for me, thank you so so soooo much!

Now I don't have to migrate my entire calendar over. Been dealing with this for a year but it had gotten much much worse lately, where every single new event was having this issue. In addition, I disabled push and put the calendar to refresh every minute.

Here it is in December 2015 and I'm having the exact same problem.  Over time I have come to depend on my calendar to assist with cash flow.  I usually store my money in my savings and transfer the amount needed to the bills account when the bills are due.  As soon as I get a bill, I schedule it in my bank's "scheduler to come out of the bills account", then I create a calendar entry for when the money will come out , file the paperwork with "scheduled" on it.  Then  set the reminder for a day before so I can transfer the money and pay my bill on time.  "New Event" did not remind me to transfer money, what's worse is that this bill has a "pay on time discount" and a penalty if you're late.   So, not only did I overdraw but I also have to pay a bigger bill .   The only thing I am glad about is that I didn't have a flight to catch!

As someone else in the thread said, you need to be able to trust your calendar to remind you so you don't have to do the remembering.  Really would like a solution soon, fingers-crossed.  In the meantime, back to paper-based calendaring for finances, flights and meetings until its sorted.

Ever since I changed to Mavericks (I haven't gone to Yosemite or El Capitan as I have older programs that may not make the jump) and the newer iCal or Calendar, I have had the same problem. I make an appointment and in the text area type the the time of my appointment numerically, which Calendar then takes as the time to remind me of my appointment (which is too late) despite my setting the first reminder the moment I wake in the custom settings. I the correct it, but then it will delete the number in the text area the moment I finish setting the details. Then when closed, it will stay like that for a few seconds then delete all the data right in front of me and I'm left with "New Event" and no appointment. So then I have to set it up again and I now change the time from say "10.45" in the texted area to a text entry Ten Forty Five to fool it and stop it resetting the actual time of the custom alarm. Then I close the settings and wait until it either deletes it again (which means I have to reset yet again) or it accepts it. Who ever said computers make things easier? I'm surprised that Apple has fallen down on this hugely important app as my previous version iCal (in Snow Leopard) - worked perfectly and above all reliably. Now its every hit and miss and dead unreliable. Any suggestions??

    Thanks Elroy2288.

For those in Australia, the date "10/11" translates to October 11 or 11 October.

I'm working with two iMacs currently: an old 20-incher running Lion 10.7.5 (the most recent OS it'll take) and a late-2013 27in which came with Mavericks but is now fully updated to El Cap 10.11.3. Both machines continue to suffer from this incessantly.

I've tried the tips recommended elsewhere in this thread (change default calendar to 'Selected calendar', etc) but nothing makes any substantial difference. On the old machine sometimes refreshing calendars before closing the info panel will make a new entry stick but quite often even this doesn't work. The recent machine seems, if anything, even more erratic and prone to losing entries. I've long ago lost count of the number of times I've had to go back and re-enter data three or four times before successfully setting up a diary date. Even then I'm never sure if I can rely on it as a secure fixture. I can only guess at the number of appointments I've missed because of vanishing entries.

Ever since the advent of desktop computers I've been a Mac user and devotee. At this point I'm beyond tearing my hair out and seriously contemplating abandoning the platform in favour of an Android phone plus a pencil and notebook...

    Hi there

I have tried all the above solutions.  Carol's solution of choosing  'Selected Calendar' does not work.  I have updated all my software.  When I enter a new item in my calendar - if I use the automatically selected calendar category it will keep the info.  If I change the category - it loses it.  I have to reenter all the data.   This just is unacceptable.   Has anyone talk to Apple about this recently?   When are they fixing this!
