The error message is: Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS.
I'm not really sure what this means?

iMac 21.5 inch external optical drive
Yosemite operating system

Are you letting Boot Camp Assistant create the partition? It will format it as required.
Please see the following example (this from an earlier OSX version which does not have Recovery HD). Please ensure you do not format any other partition, otherwise you will lose data.
