Connecting AppleTV with Hifi - can I control volume ?

Hi,

I have recently upgraded by Speakers and they are great. However, I have an issue with the signal from the ATV.

the ATV is connected to a Wireless Transmitter for the Speakers via TOSLINK

The Wireless Transmitter is connected to TV via the Headphones out (via cinch).

The ATV is connected to the TV via HDMI.

I can stream to the ATV via airplay from my iphone but the signal is very loud (for the iPad even louder) and I don' see any means for adjusting the "volume level" (on the iphone & iPad its at minimum) as I can do with the headphone volume adjustment on my TV (TV sound is good to the Speakers).

Questions:

1) If I get an AVR and connect the ATV with it via TOSLINK and

2) Connect the TV via HDMI with the AVR and then

3) Connect the AVR via Line-out (cinch) to the wireless transmitter for the speakers.

Would this configuration work ?

Would I be able to control the volume level via the AVR ?
What things should be considered ?
Are there any other options ?

I fixed this challenge. Very simple 🙂
Got myself a SONOS Connect and hooked up the TV Audio Out to the Line in and the Wireless transmitter via cinch connection to the line out of the Sonos.

The Apple TV goes via HDMI to the TV.

Works like a charm - and the SONOS can grab all the audio/video files via the network and the SONOS Controller Apps 🙂
